You already have the answer: my statement was correct, and your assumption wasn't. I don't get why, when the same design is shared between Pentax and Tokina, people would assume it's Tokina's... it's not like Tokina demonstrated a higher capability of launching new lenses.

This page is an attempt to associate Pentax-designed lenses with their designers:
http://douglasviewfinder.blogspot.ro/p/known-pentax-lens-designs-and-designers.html

The reason for the assumption is simple - the Tokina/Tamron lenses were usually (always?) released earlier than the Pentax variant.
If that is the case it's game set and match!!

@davidmanze & thxbb12:
I'm not guessing here. I even presented proof - a webpage associating the lenses with their designers (through patents); here it is again:
http://douglasviewfinder.blogspot.ro/p/known-pentax-lens-designs-and-designers.html

As for the assumption that Tokina lenses were launched before their Pentax counterparts so they're Tokina designs:
- 100mm f/2.8 macro: Pentax in 2004, Tokina in 2006; designer MASAKAZU YAMAGATA
- 12-24 f/4: Pentax in 2005, Tokina in 2004; Tokina design
- 10-17mm fisheye: Pentax in 2005, Tokina in 2007; designer TAKAYUKI ITO+Jun Hirakawa
- 16-50 f/2.8: Pentax in 2007, Tokina in 2007; designer MASAKAZU SAORI
- 50-135 f/2.8: Pentax in 2007, Tokina in 2006; designer MASAKAZU SAORI
- 35mm f/2.8 macro: Pentax in 2008, Tokina in 2007; designer YASUO KANAZASHI+KATO KOJI

Launch dates for Pentax taken from DPReview. Launch dates for Tokina lenses taken from http://www.lensora.com/lenses.asp

I did some checking as to the release dates of the Pentax vs Tokina and effectively the 16-50mm was released first by Pentax in 2007, the Tokina in 2009......

......so I bow to your research!

15 elements... 8 in the focus group:

As someone on the forum wrote:

"It's good that Pentax are allowing Tokina to use their patent so that Canon and Nikon users can enjoy this creation."

So let's all get one!

Actually the lens represent a significant jump in lens design from Pentax....with it's complex optical formula....I'm impressed!

Pentax Forums will no doubt test the K mount version.........maybe Lenstip the Nikon or Canon version.....

......doubtless the K mount version will have excellent coatings, something that Lenstip consistently groans about with Tokina.

It's certainly more complex than the Nikon AF-S 50mm F1.8 G that I'm waiting for.... ha ho ha ho.....with it's simple(ish) 7 elements in 6 groups (1 aspheric)

At CP+ Pentax, seriously under their own named banner, were showing the new KI II with this new lens on it, they were also stating that they had another K series APSc body in design and the general flavour was optimistic.

So they seem to have plans for the future!

Pentaxforums already have a brief hands-on, with a video showcasing the focusing speed:
