Is Nikons ILC right around the corner? - Steinar1 - 07-06-2011 In Paris the Blvrd Beaumarchais is full of Nikon resellers and camera shops in general. On a recent visit I got the distinct impression from 2 of them that they have been given info that they may not yet divulge about the upcoming Nikon mirrorless interchangeable lens camera and, in particular, that it may not be far away from being announced. I hope that it will be an exciting surprise, so that I may no longer have to look at other brands for an ILC. How about something that will give Fuji and Sony real competition. Is Nikons ILC right around the corner? - popo - 07-06-2011 Fuji? I consider the only significant active mirrorless players at the moment to be Olympus, Panasonic and Sony. I'm looking forward to seeing what Nikon bring out. I like the rumour that they used a smaller sensor, as that should allow for a smaller system. Even if that is wrong, I hope they bring something fresh and not just "yet another camera".
I second that... Actually after Oly's recent launch, if Nikon comes with a mirrorless system sooner, I would expect much more than a "normal" mirrorless system. If I were Nikon, I would postphone the launch of such a new system if I think that it is not competitive... Too much "if"s as you see... Serkan Is Nikons ILC right around the corner? - miro - 07-07-2011 Honestly I’m tired to hear the next Nikon rumours. It’s at least 3 years old rumour. I’m more interested on Sony A77 rumours. What will bring us? Is it the camera that will break the even point in interchangeable lens market. The time counts. The questions are when it will happen and how long will be the transition period from hybride solution like dSLR. Ok patience - we will see it soon.
Yes Fuji, in the sense that there will be Nikon competition for the market that the X100 now occupies, hopefully. Also I think Pentax and Samsung has to be counted. Pentax bring out good quality, even if they do not compete over the whole line. The Q will take market share for sure. Sony is acting like this was a phone market, with 50 different issues of the same (good) base. They are impressive, but for me too mass marketing oriented. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Is Nikons ILC right around the corner? - popo - 07-07-2011
Yes Fuji, in the sense that there will be Nikon competition for the market that the X100 now occupies, hopefully. And whatever Nikon come out with I personally don't think would be anything X100 like. The most plausible rumours so far paint a picture of smaller sensor smaller cameras than most, and it may be better to think of it as super-compact than smaller-SLR. We shall have to wait and see there. Pentax Q I think would have a chance, but only if the current price is wrong. Right now it might occupy a place in history next to the Sigma SD1. Surely the back-illuminated CMOS has it's strengths, but the sensor could be a bit bigger for a better IQ I think. OK the camera is tiny, bu who needs that much small camera, as long as one cannot put it in his/her pocket (because of an interchangable lens mount). With respect to the Q price, I believe it will be somewhat like the D7000, that started out at the level of a D300s and know is 25% less expensive! We shall see! Is Nikons ILC right around the corner? - mst - 07-07-2011 Personally, I'm not too excited about the upcoming Nikon EVIL. The rumors suggest a sensor too small to make the camera attractive to DSLR shooters. So it's probably a blown up compact system instead. Unfortunately, Nikon has not really the best reputation in the compact camera segment. -- Markus |
