well someone did use 600mm for macro...and he is happy with result especially working distance, he used a totally different Nikon lens though

I've used extenders on the AF-S 500mm F4D for shooting humming moths ....... I took a folding chair and using a tripod set low and a gimbal, sat in front of some flowers with plenty of butterflies and humming moths and got some nice shots .......

Yet to do it with the 600E F4 ...... the G2 has 2.2 mts MFD and is more likely to be practical for size/weight and magnification reasons.
Nice to know the 600F4E is sharp as a macro though .....

Tony and Chelsea Northrup compare the Nikkor AF-S 600mm F4E VR FL to the two Canon F11 telephotos .......
... actually they're better than I thought with the R5's low noise and the stabilisation allowing slow shutter speeds .... and giving reasonable clean images ...... no birds in flight however!

certainly an ideal bring along tele-photos ......

I will say that the size and weight comparison with the huge Nikkor was a bit over the top ......
..... it should have been compared with say the Tamron A022 G2 or a Sigma equivalent ...... or even a Sony ...... or the Nikkor AF-S 500mm F5.6 PF ........ where the versatility and brighter aperture would have an advantage .........

preview has now a gallery for the 800mm f11

Looks like a few decent pictures. As a rough comparison maybe one could say it's like a EF-S 55-250 IS STM at 250mm in IQ?

Yeah, I also thought that these are pretty bad.

It's probably a combination of many things here
- diffraction, of course (see megapixel limits here: https://luminous-landscape.com/articleImages/images-82/TABLA3.jpg )
- they used the R5 ... 45mp vs diffraction limit ...
- air diffusion combined with long distances - in the (hot) summertime
- shake
- high ISO
