I think Bill Gates has something like that. ;-)

I'm not so sure about that ... I heard they recently found a second customer considering to purchase, so they may have run out of stock <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

More seriously: the desktop solution that comes closest to Serkan's vision is probably Wacom's Cintiq. Unfortunately it isn't available in really large sizes (21" maximum).

Back to the future of desktops: some notebooks certainly can be used as desktop replacements, but the biggest issue these products are facing is screen estate. Anyone used to work on a 27" or 30" display hardly wants to go back to a smaller screen.

Of course, you can add such a screen to a powerful notebook, too.

But then you are just transforming the laptop into a desktop machine again.

Yes... This could be the portable version of my imaginary "desk(top)" computer...

My only concern at this point is that the sensor seems quite recessed in the mount, in relative terms. Might make the use of some adapted lenses harder.

This flange focal distance issue is another key factor... Longer than m4/3, could be somewhere to fit Samsung NX maybe...<img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Not sure. Nikon digital compacts tend to suck (some recent exceptions) and even serious Nikon SLR shooters admit this and by other brands for a small compact. Given past performance, I am expecting that they screw that one up (as they did with their serious compact P7000).
I think their recent successes may be an indication they're improving on their compacts now..

Nikon brand has build its reputation on something different than below-average products in its class... Like I´ve said, I predict Nikon mirorless with 2,7 crop is absolutely wrong step and will be failure. Esp. when Canon comes with its own mirorless system which I guess won´t feature such a crippled sensor...

You may disagree, you may argue but that´s all you can do about it. You will see I´m right here <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
It's my bet too... but will let time do the telling...

That's what I do. When the screen is disconnected, I am back to a portable laptop. Also, the real estate taken up by a laptop is much smaller than that of a desktop.

It seems that Nikon follows the same silly small sensor road as Pentax:

I see the Thom Hogan oracle is now predicting a mirrorless announcement at CES in January

Interestingly, he's also backing a new horse for the August 24th announcement, ie D4 and the D700 replacement.

Hmmm... then I would speculate that the guys in Nikon heard our screams concerning this new mirrorless and wanted to change the approach <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />....

OTOH, a very interesting rumour (at least for me), that two new FX bodies will be placed in the market (D800 and D4 at the same time). It would be very nice not to kill the D700 path and place an affordable FX body (again). But I guess this time the difference should be more than we have today between D3 and D700.
