Just when you thought lens naming reached its pinnacle of silliness... hihi <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

The 35mm f1,4 looks quite good... I really like the To Be Determined/Decided about the weight <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

I'm confused now... what's the difference between the "S" 120-300 and the current EX one, which seem to be dropped from the S. The styling is clearly different, but on first glance the optical design and MTF charts are identical. So they're re-skinning it for some reason? Ok, the link to IR in another thread states "Additionally, a button on the lens allows you to change focus speed and the focus limiter." which is a nice little extra, as well as the possibility of user adjustments of lens characteristics. Or is that a step too far, feeding into the gear tinkering when you should really just want to get out there and shoot?

Anyway, having used the current version of that lens today, the only "upgrade" I really want is if they can cut a couple kilos off its weight... <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Well, maybe the new QC has impacts on the internal design (standardized mount points) ?

They might be using their new "TSC" (Thermally Stable Composite) material they advertised a few months ago.

It certainly was sexy. I'd use that.

"Based on these new product lines, we have developed special software (SIGMA Optimization Pro) that can update the lens firmware and adjust parameters such as focus . The focus limiter is also customizable for Sports lenses. Using special USB Dock, the user will be able to connect the lens to their PC, and, using easy-to-operate on-screen controls, fine-tune focus and adjust other parameters to suit their personal preferences."

In Lens Fine tuning??

edit:

Inspection policy using 46MP Foveon sensor... to my knowledge... that sensor is a APS-C... what about inspection for FF sensor size?

It is surely a custom chip.

I'm not convinced about the new styling from the pictures, however that wouldn't stop me trying one out. I'll be interested to see how the 35/1.4 performs and what the price will be :-)
