Nikon Lens Question
#12
Ian,

Apologies for the slow response. With ship models as the subject, I'm trying to find a lens that will allow me to:

- Take crystal clear close-up photos of details (e.g. zoom in on rigging details)

- Capture the entire ship clearly when shot broadside (so shallow depth of field?)

- Capture the entire ship clearly when shot from stem to stern (so deep depth of field?)

If I had to pick, my emphasis would be on the first item above, but my hope was the 40mm lens referenced above with a tripod and a light box would cover all three bases.

Hi Bill,

For those three uses, the 40mm macro is ideal... longer focal length macros would (I think) give shallower depth of field, so likely to be less useful.

I'm not sure whether you'll get the Depth of Field you'll need for the stem to stern shots, though.

Here's a tool for calculating Depth of Field: DoF Master

Good luck, and enjoy..! <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
