Thanks again for your suggestions. As it is I've decided to let go of the NEX-5 and buy a 550d.
In the first round I'll buy a standard kit lens - to find out what my needs are in terms of zoom range on the lens and also to just play around with DOF etc. Learning to take photographs and finding out what I use the camera for.
Interesting that you say that the 18-55 mm II or III should be better than the I. Here on photozone the I has received quite a good review but I guess you know that? Is it the II or III you suggest or maybe both of them?
