Can you afford it?
I am not an extreme UWA kind of guy (at the moment anyway), I can't afford such an extreme lens either, and I would not appreciate the more than one kilo added weight to my gear much either. I like the lens, though, for what it is.

Scythels

MTF bench tests like the trioptics imagemaster test the lens at infinity, fyi.

I was curious:

Nikon D810 + 14-24/2.8: CHF 4400.-

Canon 5DS + 11-24/4: CHF 7338.-

Nikon's combination is at 60% price not necessarily 40% worse - what do you guys think? I'm sure it's an awesome lens but the pricing looks sporty. What you get is 22% more wide angle, x% less awful flare, plus 28% more pixels. So, the value is there, I think. Are you going to get it, Canon shooters?

Ah right, I had forgotten that I read they had acquired that somewhere last year. Thanks for pointing it out.

The Tamron 15-30mm is also a lens to recon with. It seems to be better than the Nikkor in a number of ways (focussing ability, barrel distortion, flare).
Dream on.

In terms of flare nearly every wide angle is better than the Nikon. Alright, "nearly every" in it's price class - while the Tamron is a little pricier. EDIT: correction, the Tamron is cheaper although the prices at lens rentals suggest else.

Anyway, I'm done with Tamron. They just have nothing to make me think about another Tamron adventure.

If it comes to sharpness, especially in corners, the Canon beats the Nikon - nothing less would be acceptable at double price!

Ask me again after Friday's lottery results Smile

I might be able to justify a 5Ds at some point, but like BC I just don't do anywhere near enough rectilinear UWA to get a lens like that. The existing fisheye zoom would be more desirable and only about 1/3 the price.
