Sorry to ask, I couldn't resist! Is the test of that lens planned?

Regards,

Stéphane

Well, yes, the test is definitey planned, but there is no schedule, yet.

The lens will be loaned to me by a friend immediately after he purchased it. However it's not certain when this purchase is going to happen.

Been thinking of getting the new version, for my D600 and for my V1, as I've only got an old 400/5.6 as yet!

StephaneB

Well, after having tried them all (80-400 AF-S, 70-200/2.8 VR II and 70-300 VR), I went with the 70-300mm. Until 200mm there is not much between any of those lenses. At 300mm, I see a difference at f/5.6. But the 70-300 is very good for me at 300mm at f/11, which is fine for landscapes on a tripod.

From what I saw, the 70-300 gives me 90% of what the 80-400 would give me at 20% of the price and half the weight.

Are you only comparing at f11?

At 200mm the 70-300 can't shoot at f2.8, f4 and not even f5!

Anyways, we all look forward to the 80-400 review.

Neither can the 80-400 Wink
