Struggles at f/1.8, but quite ok at medium apertures.

It's a pattern: all of the f/1.8 lenses sucked wide open on this body but became much better at f/2.8. Though I wouldn't call the f/1.8 shot downright terrible (the one with the plant), clearly it's an emergency aperture only.

 

Wonder if the f/1.4 lenses are going to perform even worse? Any plans to test some of those on 1?

The AF-S 50/1.4 maybe. The other f/1.4 primes are likely of minor interest for most CX shooters.

Agreed, though I thought it'd be fun to test something out of left field like this... for April 1st for example. Maybe some other joke review is scheduled?

Well, I may finish the AF-D 20/2.8 DX review later today. However, even though the lens is not stellar on the D7000, I wouldn't go so far to call it a joke

Ah. I thought maybe you were planning to review something truly laughable (optically), like a Lensbaby or some old film kit zoom...
