Putting its optical performance aside, I find it blunted to assemble a lens with different revisions of parts. I mean, you pay the full price and receive a lens that looks like hammered together from residual spare parts. I think this speaks volumes about Sigmas understanding of quality.

It may have been repaired that way. But I thought we'd never see the review of this lens, given your past troubles with finding a valid sample. Looks kinda similar to the non-II VR Nikkor.
No, it was purchased new that way. Repairs came later, but never managed to adress the decentering of the first review unit.
I suspected the 2nd unit to be off specs because of the poor border results I got, even though I couldn't find any signs of decentering or similar issues. The third unit finally confirmed my findings. Given there are currently some other "distractions" the review still took a while to get published.
Now that it's finally out, Sigma will certainly announce a 70-200 OS II soon <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
' /> Given the product history so far, an update is already overdue...
