I need to open AI extension file which was emailed to me. But i cannot install Adobe Illustrator graphics editor on my PC. 
 
Does anyone know how to view AI file without Illustrator?

can't they export the file in svg file format that you can open with open source software, such as Inkscape.

I think Inkscape can even open some older AI formats.

Also google for "open illustrator files" and you should find some discussions about other tools, but I'm not familiar with any of them.
