Hi Markus,

I previously posted this message in the Nikon FX/DX lens section, but since it remained unnoticed, I'm posting it again here.

Would you be interested in testing any of these lenses on Nikon FX?

Nikkor 24-85 f/2.8-4

Nikkor 28-105 f/3.5-4.5

Nikkor 80-200 f/2.8 (push-pull version)

Given I own these lenses I'd be happy to lend some to you.

Thanks!
I thought they're all old and discontinued? (except maybe for the 24-85 but that's probably going to change soon with the new 24-85 VR hitting the stores).

80-200 AF-S is a more likely idea I think?

Regarding the AF-D 24-85mm lens: if I remember correctly, this lens is already in the pipeline for an FX review. Besides, I think among the mid-range zooms within the Nikon line up, this lens is unique with its more versatile FL range, close-up capabilities beyond 35mm and mostly because of the (relatively) pleasent bokeh rendering in this class. It has a strong barrel distortion on the wide side and softer on the tele side, but all in all, I belive the performance on a 24mp FX body is worth to report.

And after that, the extra review for the new 24-85mm would make us happier than ever <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />... One can decide to grab the new one or not <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />...

Serkan
First of all, thanks for the offer, I really appreciate it. The 24-85 and 28-105 are already on my list (as is the AF-S 80-200).

So, from your list we're down to the AF-D 80-200, which I've been actually looking for for a while.

However, there are two problems: I'm still facing quite some work in my main job, which currently makes it close to impossible to significantly reduce the list of mostly-done-but-unwritten reviews (a few are coming though this week, you can check our smugmug site to get an impression of what's in the pipeline). So I don't think I'd find time for this one until a lot later this year, I'm afraid.

The second issue is that shipping something from Switzerland to Germany and back involves custom duties on both sides. So, unless you can ship the lens from somewhere the European Union, loaning it to us looks a little unattractive from an economical point of view.

Sure. I'll be leaving for summer holiday next week (including a few days at Andy's (studor13) hostel, btw.), but will try to get the new 24-85 VR when I return. As well as the 18-300 VR, of course.

Is AF-S 28 1.8 G review coming this week?

I've got another question:

I know you're putting enourmous amount of work into the reviews and have even more important things to do in your main work, but would it be possible to test some of those parameters in some fufutre reviews:

- light transmission (T stop) - that would be very helpful for those who use DSLRs for video work,

- actual focal lenght, especially for zoom lenses, with "focus breathing" evaluation,

- focus shift table - showing where focus plane is for different apertures (could also be in the same form as CA test, but for example for 3 different subject distances - lens maximum magnification, then 2,5m and maybe 10m).

It's not that PZ tests are lacking some serious info, but those above could be even more helpful <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Why can't the owners just come round to your place if they're visiting Germany. The stuff in one's backpack certainly isn't of any interest to customs. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> If I'd been visiting that part of Germany I would've certainly brought some of my stuff along to have it tested (though my gear is more on Klaus's side of life).
Testing lenses takes a while, that's not something that can be done in an hour or two.
