Irina Werning is a professional photographer based in Argentina. In 2010 she started a project where she reshot old photographs with the same people and at the same location many years later.

You may have seen similar projects or single images with the same intention from other photographers, but (IMO) no one has achieved the same level of "perfection" in fully recreating the whole look and feel of the original images.

She has repeated the project in 2011, so there a two "Back to the future" series now for your viewing pleasure:

I saw her work first right after she published the first series and really liked it. Unfortunately I didn't remember the link to her page shortly thereafter and must admit that I forgot her name, too. So I'm really glad to read today that she won the 2012 Sony World Photography Awards in the Portraiture category. First because it's a well-deserved prize, second of course because I can finally bookmark her page... and even get a 2nd series to enjoy, too <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I find these two spectacular:

Oh, and check our her other projects, too. Some really serious work, but also more of the kind of photography that makes you smile. I very much like the Chini project, for example <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Yes, the Berlin Wall one nicely stands out, doesn't it? <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I guess it is about aging. Things and places remain the same, but humans don't. Carpe diem...
