Both are very good within their range. The 70-200mm f4 L IS USM can give some problems at closest focus distance (maybe a sample variation problem with that problem too), but for the rest a lovely lens. When you add a Kenko 1.4x tele converter or a Canon 1.4x Extender III, you get the same rage as the 70-300 L.
The 70-300 L's advantage is the extended tele range, and the faster AF. At MFD it shows quite some focus breathing, giving a field of view comparable to that of the 70-200mm at MFD. The 70-200 weighs less.
Which will suit you better is a personal choice.
