I find the new Olympus concept very interesting. Assuming I can limit prints to A3, 30x40cm, what will the best m4/3 lenses be for this camera. I assume you can start with the Olympus 12mm, f2, but then what? Are there good Panasonic or other prime lenses that can be used? Are all m4/3 lenses usable on all the 4/3 and m4/3 cameras?

I think I would want a 25mm, 50-60mm and maybe a 75-100mm lens for this camera, all primes, no zooms in addition to the 12mm Olympus.

The camera is exciting and with really good optics, it could be a success in my bag.

I would suggest the Panasonic 20/1.7 and the Oly 45/1.8. Both small and light, perform very well.

Although I also like the looks of the Oly 12mm, it is a bit expensive. A cheaper alternative, but less performant from what I've read, may be the Pana 14mm pancake.

Well, loup,

You'll get good A3 prints with the E-P1 & "kit lenses" already and you already limit your choices a lot with primes only.

-the 12mm seems very appreciated.

-the 20mm f/1.7 is stunning and fully fonctionnal on Oly might be a worthy alternative to the 25mm below ?

-the 25mm f/1.4 has a possible issue : just look for reports on the "rattlesnake" aperture when the E-M5 is out. Many users await for reports and Olympus has reported they're in contact with Panasonic to try to fix the issue (currently on the E-P line, it seems).

-the 45mm f/1.8 is 100% recommended by yours truly

-I don't know much about the 45mm macro lens but it seemed too pricey for me and the 45mm f/1.8 was a good cheap "waiting lens" for the "50mm F/2 m.zuiko macro" I was hoping for (and that will probably never come now that Olympus announced the 60mm f/2.8 macro).

-the only gap so far (until the 75mm f1.8 arrives) would be at the 75-100mm FL.
No reason to limit print size to such a small size.... You can easily get very good results with print sizes of for instance 100x75cm.

I know the subject started wit primes; but what standard zooms are recommend ? Is there anything in micro 4/3 that matches the 14-55 or 12-60 in image quality ?

Btw a user report indicated the 50-200 will work on the om-d.

to my knowledge, no

No, sorry. The 14-45 is good though.

Panasonic has announced a 12-35mm f/2.8 zoom. Could be a good one.

Sylvain

Yes, good catch Sammy. I forgot it. Panasonic is likely to try to make a statement with this lens, at least with the price tag.

Hum so a bit pricey but less pricey the 14-55 with adapter might be a more reasonable alternative. Maybe 14-150 ?
