The question is now why we should favour this over a Panasonic GX-1 with 14-42mm PZ ?

It seems the Canon is a bit larger (see dpr preview).
Interesting camera. The only thing I don't get is why they sticked to that awful OVF.

Longer faster lens and (marginally) larger sensor ? If the lens is top notch it might be an interesting option; though it is slow at the relatively short long end.

Faster lens and larger sensor ?

Faster at "28mm". Larger sensor ... now com'on, ey.
Ok Ok. No clue what canon is thinking. They probably compared it to the G12 with regards to marketing as oppose to the rest of the market. I mean why buy a G12 in the first place (even though it seems to sell well) ? While the GX1 is expensive the older olympus pens (like ep-1) are going for a dime (well $400 with kit lens).

A bit of a bore the G1X <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Anyhow, I think it´s now a bit clearer what kind of sensor Canon would use in their rumored mirrorless ILC.

To quote DPR: "The GX1 offers interchangeable lenses, but the G1 X has a larger sensor, longer lens range, optical viewfinder, and articulated LCD."

Sorry but the larger sensor argument is a joke regarding the really minor difference. Longer lens range ... just a few mm. Optical viewfinder ... oh yeah. As far the articulated screen - just replace the GX-1 with the E-PL3 instead.
Does not make sense to me at least.
