Hi everyone:

Could you recommend a good free photography blog website for sharing both photography ariticles and photos? I checked the fickr blog but I did not find that it is convenient to use. I don't even know what is its relation to flickr and how to create an account and how to browse blog contents of other people.

Thanks,

Frank

a long long time ago i felt that flickr were compressing the pictures and not well, but maybe it was me and might not be so now ..... anyhow what about ....

..... http://forum.photozone.de/ ??

..... and i've thought that http://dutchphotozone.com/ might be interesting, but they don't speak english (probably wisely :-)

..... and you can always take rss feeds from http://www.dpreview.com/ for the interesting to read info, but sometimes the forums can take time to work thru as there's so much chatter over there, anyhow i get my useful info right here at pz

but really, as very helpful as the web is, i also rather like looking at pictures on pieces of paper - so galleries, or mags like say the national geographic i like for the quality from the pros to get a feeling of what works or not

.... or just look around.... at the current Picasso show here (just astonishing) i thought that many fellow visitors looked like they were models for his paintings - definitely worth a shot, except no photos allowed

Hi Frank

Well, you know about Cambridge in Colour... I've been finding the forum and competitions there informative and interesting recently.

Here are another three, though I haven't checked into these recently:
 • Open Photography Forums
 • On Landscapes (actually not a forum / blog, but content looks interesting)
 • Luminous Landscape

A terrific site to read, although it won't get technical in any way and cannot be regarded as a how-to, is http://theonlinephotographer.typepad.com...tographer/

Very nicely written about the philosophy of photography. It's a daily read that will grow on you, most certainly, as you get to "know" its author and his habits, Mike Johnston (the man has been editor in many paper magazines as well).

It's not your "average" blog, it is professional blogging.

awww I misread your post. But I'll keep my link posted...

Thank you all for your responses. Perhaps I have not expressed my question clearly. I am looking for a photographer website that everyone can have a blog to post his/her own articles or diaries or photos once he/she has registered. Perhaps this kind of blogs specially for photographers do not exist and one should just look for a general blog website.

Frank

Hi Frank,

There are some indeed, but those are not free, although they generally also offer other services, such as image hosting and selling, and other stuff. And AFAIK, most who want to do this for free will indeed use a "standard" blogging site.

An alternative would be to register one's own domain, and install WordPress, Joomla or Drupal, or something similar, and design and build one's own site. A bit more involved, but generally free, or almost free.

HTH, kind regards, Wim

Thank you, Wim. Then I think I should look for a standard blog site.

Thank you, Vieux Loup. But I remember that with SmugMug you can only post photos, not articles. Am I right?

Yep. Maybe mix the best of both worlds: write your blog with wordpress and include images or links to galleries hosted by smugmug.
