NEW: THE SLR Magic HyperPrime 23mm F1.7

SLR Magic expands its E-mount lineup with a new wide angle lens

Hong Kong, China (December 8, 2011) - SLR Magic expands the E-mount lens lineup with the new SLR Magic HyperPrime 23mm F1.7 wide angle lens. With this latest addition, the portfolio of lenses for the E-mount system is now comprised of three focal lengths. The world's fastest interchangeable camera lens with APS-C coverage in this focal length, the SLR Magic HyperPrime 23mm F1.7 will be available in January 2012.

The field of view of this new HyperPrime Lens corresponds to a 35mm lens in 35mm format and this fast wide angle of view opens up many new creative composition opportunities, particularly in the fields of candid, street, and landscape cinematography and photography. A minimum focus distance of 0.15m allows for pleasing defocused backgrounds. Additionally, a fast max aperture of F1.7 makes the SLR Magic HyperPrime 23mm F1.7 ideal for available-light photography. "The world's fastest interchangeable camera lens with APS-C coverage in this focal length, the SLR Magic HyperPrime 23mm F1.7 will be available in January 2012."

The Canon Ef 24mm f1.4 L USM II, Nikon AF-S 24mm f1.4 G and Sigma 24mm f1.8 EX DG Macro also cover APS-C <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' /> .

I guess with 24mm focal length what they said is still true, 24mm is not 23mm <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' /> .

Well, we will test this ASAP anyway.

24mm is never really 24mm - this is basically just a class. If they provide their true focal length I've no issues here.

They will have a more thrilling announcement in a couple of weeks ... SLR Magic is an interesting new player (despite their name).

And how much more expensive ?

Are you willing to pay a grand for a moderate wide-angle lens on APS-C ("37mm f/2.5") ?

Zeiss has full AF and electronic contact. Does this SLR Magic lens have at least electronic contact?

No, it does not. At less than half the price and slightly more attractive optical specs.
