A bit silly, the nomenclature...
With Tamron, Di means "Digitally integrated". Not that there is all of a sudden something digital integrated as opposed to non Di lenses, but it basically means the coatings are re-formulated to combat purple fringing. Similar to Sigma's DG generation.
Di II means the same, but the II stands for "APS-C" lenses. So, lenses with a smaller image circle than the Di lenses, which are designed for 135 format.
And then now, Di III. Also for... APS-C. But a different mount. So now it does not stand for the image circle anymore, but rather for a shorter flange distance. Right...

A long time back already... long before Sony bought up Minolta's DSLR branch to enter the DSLR arena (again...). Sony has an 11% stake in Tamron. Different Sony lenses were either a rebadged Tamron (Sony 11-18mm DT ultra wide angle zoom, Sony 28-75mm f2.8 FF standard zoom, Sony 18-200 and 18-250mm super zooms), or a Tamron designed lens. Many Sony lenses also are manufactured by Tamron (like the Sony/Zeiss ones).

ta Bc - well i knew i was old, but well, that old!! ....... maybe their 70-300 is a carbon copy too .....
..... and hmmm, i wondered why i need to look at two copies of the 1635 to find something reasonable - i hadn't thought that cz would be like that

Is the Tamron lens identical to Sony version? The filter size isn't the same, though. Thoughts?
