Full Version: Samsung NX lenses are weird ...

I just tested the 3rd prime lens ... and it's a roller-coaster ride again. ;-)

One more to go prior of publishing. I still need to get an idea about the potentials of the system.

Testing is somewhat agonizing with the NX200 - the buffer is just too small for these gigantic RAWs.

I reckon you will see the first review around mid next week.

Well, and the 50-200ED sample is ... decentered.

Samsung's lens QC doesn't seem to become a heard affair here.

I reckon that I will wait for a kindly fellow from the community who is willing to supply one. This was then 2nd mediocre sample.

The 60/2.8 results are also fishy (rather mediocre results) but not obviously decentered.

that sounds a little concerning, after the 30mm lens I had some very high hopes for lenses that should be at a premium even over that one. Having seen some 12x18 prints that are tack sharp from the 18-55mm lens also has set my expectations very high for those coming.

I do know that down here in NZ we have not had the 55-200mm lens available from the Samsung factory for a period of over 3 months now, perhaps they have been reassessing their quality control on that product line causing the delays?

Well, I'm currently very happe with my pencake primes (also tried the dirty decentering test - all negative), so that's kind of dissappointing to hear <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

I also preordered the 50-200. I would offer it as soon as it arrives for testing.

The tested 16/20/30 have been fine so far.

Am I misreading your general overall tone or have you been a bit less than overjoyed with the nx 2000 as a system (compared to sony nex and micro 4/3) ?

From a system perspective it is very hard to beat MFT (and specifically Panasonic) at the moment.

Sony and Samsung are quite a distance behind. Camera-wise the NX200 is Ok although I would prefer the NEX 5n here in a direct comparison between these two.

My primary concern about Samsung NX is QC though - specifically regarding their OIS stuff. Or in other words - I've yet to see an OIS lens without issues ... This is obviously the key aspect that defines how much a "like" a system simply because it has a direct relation to my (testing) work and work efforts.

Other than that I've also a mixed feeling about the way Samsung tries to tackle the market. The "carry series" (the pancakes & the 20-50) of lenses make sense to me on a mirrorless system but e.g. the 60mm Macro and 85mm f/1.4 are monsters - they are simply too big & heavy and comparable with (full format) DSLR offerings.

Ok thank you for the feedback. I think I'll cross it off my list of things to consider for now. I'm leaning towards nex 5n/7 but not as a system; rather to use with my old manual focus lenses (i'm hopeful the zoom feature will make focus easy though i like where micro 4/3 is headed (pity what olympus upper management did to the company).
