Here is a user review of the 45f1.8 with some sample images:

A few comments; most of the subjects are near the center so it is hard to judge corner behavior; most of the shots are at 1250 iso and I'm going to presume jpeg from the camera (though on the ep-3 they are likely to be as good as post processing; but no clue on how much noise reduction was applied).



This is basically a 50f1.8; something folks had known how to make for $50 for years; the catch is that it is smaller than normal and might have improved corner resolution than your typical 50f1.8. Would be more interesting if it were f1.2.

ep-3 seems to perform ok at higher iso; certainly seems usable - at least at screen resolution; not sure how it holds up in print.

And an AF supersonic drive, and a shorter lens to sensor distance design, and more complex coatings, and ... :-)

Well, rangefinders had 50mm f/2 for ages, so "short flange distance" doesn't cut here. Besides rangefinder lenses were full-frames, not 1/2 crop <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

And of course it is equivalent to a 90mm f3.6 lens. Not a 50mm f1.8 lens.



So yes, very compact, but compare it to a 90mm f2.8 from Tamron, a Sony 85mm f2.8 or even a Canon 85mm f1.8 USM/Nikon AF 85mm f1.8.



Or the Canon EF-S 60mm f2.8 USM and Tamron 60mm f2 Di II macro APS-C lenses (or the FF Nikon AF-S 60mm f2.8 micro on APS-C).

Actually you really cannot compare it to those lenses because it is a simpler lens to design and produce. Probably the largest expense is tooling due to limited quantity. Anyways kind of a pointless debate but still wish it was a bit brighter.

Nice combo... The bokeh is pleasant and the IQ of the EP-3 is very very impressive for a 2x cropped sensor.

And for those you wish to skip the review; they found it to be quite excellent; nearly 5* on Klaus's scale ('cept 4/3 doesn't get *'s). Probably suffers a bit on the ratings due to vignetting (-0.70ev wide open).
