Thanks for your work here.
Out of interest, do you fold price into your judgement here? You seem quite happy with this one, but a bit not so happy with the Zeiss recently. Comparing the numbers, e.g. 4.0 there is nothing much between the two. The Zeiss suffers badly in the corners wide open, but in comparison to this one does well at the "borders", compare 2.8.
I agree, that considering your MTF figures the AF-S 50/1.4 G beats the two by quite a mile. But then you are not so happy with its "bokeh" wide open. Perhaps a matter of "you can't have it all".

Under Bokeh Fringing you mention 'lack of focus wide open' - I guess you meant lack of contrast? (Ref MTF section)

Thanks for the review Markus... I suppose you have a sunny weather there and you are on the run for testing all FX compatible lenses you've got...
The sharpness of this lens in the center of the frame is exceptional for that price... I use it on D700 for close-up portraits (mostly indoors). The border/corner performance between F/2.0-4.0 is not much of a problem, and overall lack of high contrast in open apertures (+ lack of detail with higher ISOs) is very suitable for such portrait shots. And also not to forget, I think the background blur is not a top notch but I don't find it bad or unpleasent at all. Of course it cannot compete in general with the 85mms, but again, at this price this lens is a must have ( and you can even carry it in the pocket of your rain coat)...
