Seems to be more desirable here.

Thanks for the review!

Thanks for the review. It seems that my good 'ol Canon 70-300 IS (non-L) is still ok (unless you want to lug a heavy L lens).

Now, I need to decide whether I should sell all my Canon glass (and buy mFT glass) or get the 600D...

@ Klaus I know that you also enjoy hiking. Do you still use a heavy DSLR?

Depends. However, I'm never taking a full format DSLR here.

I guess the DSLRs will be history to me once prosumer zooms will emerge in the micro-formats.

The Sony G is planned for 2012 and there're rumors about a Pana 12-50.

It is funny to see how this lens compares to Canon L.

But there is nothing strange. Just to squeeze the last part you need a lot of efforts/money.

E.g Tamron 70-300vc is very good lens, just to get a little bit more you need to pay extra 1000 euro. And then again C 300/2,8 IS is even better.

As already mentioned in previous tread I did test shoot with Tamron 70-300VC vs Tokina 100 macro vs Sigma 150 Macro. Even on 100 and 150mm Tamron zoom is distinguishable worse that two macros at center and corners.

What I’m trying to say with this?

For Tamron 70-300Vc owners. it is very good lens but don’t think that you have the IQ of 300/2,8 IS.
As always it is a question of diminishing return upon higher investment.

The 70-300L IS is too expensive though.

miro

70-300L was expensive for me too.

However even if I decided to give 1400 euro for lens I'll think on extra weight that I must carry. For short trips in west europe I don't care about weight. For long trips in wilderness /e.g. my last two trips to Bulgaria/ I really need light backpack. With saved weight I can bring extra bottle water.

That's the only problem I have with that lens. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />
