Could be a little better in relation to its price tag.

a little mistake in the price of its in-house competitor <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
You put an extra 0 on the price of the non-DO lens <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> I don't think I'd pay $4500 for it.

Will there be also an updated test on crop sensor?

I did get a DO for myself, pre-used so that the price was somewhat sane. The reason for choosing it over the non-DO version? So it would fit in my small camera bags <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> I have the 100-400L for when I don't care about size. The only other 300mm region lens I had at the time was the Tamron 18-270 but that felt worse on the long end (both on crop sensor of course).

Thanks ... a 70-300 for 4500EUR may be a little over the top ... :-)

There'll be no update on APS-C this time. The lens is not all that interesting for the mainstream I think.

Then again, if they did a 70-300 f/2.8 for 4500EUR, I'd possibly be 1st in line <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />

I wonder if Canon has given up on the DO design; also curious how long they spent working on the 400 and 70-300 designs prior to release. Hum. Oh well would be nice to see something new on the optical front.

Silly price tag and ugly bokeh. Yikes.

I think they have. These multiple fresnel type lenses are great for making a lens a lot lighter and shorter, are fine when used with film, but on digital they require an expert hand at postprocessing - digital is just too sharp to obliterate the rendering side effects of these lenses.

The 70-300 DO was always praised over here as a stealth lens: it doesn't really look as long as it is, and it is black too <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />.

Kind regards, Wim

<img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' /> - well, it is a rather complicated and difficult technology to get it right...

Kind regards, WIm

Canon has filed a number of new patent applications for new DO lens designs. So, who knows, we may see a few more in the next few years?
