According to the specs the DR has been increased by 31%. The color saturation gained 38%.
The lens is also "supposed" to be better.

Yes, I saw that too. I am waiting for a few reviews now, to see how good it really is. I guess Panasonic had to up the ante again, with Canon bringing out the G11 and S-90 (and from what I gather, quite a few people switching from LX-3 to G11).
Kind regards, Wim

They say it is pre-production, so there might still be some miracles down in the pipeline <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' /> What is there at present, does not impress me. Oversharpened and smudged detail (just look at the hair of the models <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' /> ) My E-P1 is Swedish miles ahead of that. It also has those infamous Panasonic colours.
My initial reaction: get a µFT - a digicam remains a digicam, even if it is a Lumix LX.

True. Those small digicam can never compete with a micro-system camera but then they're still smaller. Well, the lens is at least.

Yes, but high-end small cameras are getting dangerously close to micro-system cameras, as these do to DSLR. Now when Fuji introduced phaze AF with F300 on non-DSLR camera, I think the approach will be different. Also, I am proud to be an user of Canon S90 (while my main system is Nikon FX), and I must say I am positively surprised of how good this little toy handles difficult scenarios, and excells all my expectations on good light situations - these RAW it produces are incredible from such a small little thing. 11 f-stops DR at lowest ISO is for every respect.
Now on many many situations I don't need D700. Last time, when I was on my trip to Africa I had them both. Now I have only small one. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />
I give all chances to LX-5 that it will be fabulous. Just can't wait the first RAWs, and then to test it in my own hands. Egonomics are something little S90 surprised me as well.

Well, with a pancake or collapsible Olympus zoom, it is not that much of difference. On the LX5 the lens also sticks out a bit when collapsed - that camera isn't really shirt pocket stuff either.

At the bottom of

is a size comparison. Yep, there is some size advantage to the LX5, but whether it is worth the sacrifices in IQ is a personal matter.
