Thats a hefty price tag! Also, is it Tokina that announces a lens and then takes years to actually release it to the public?

On top of that will flare as any tokina lens.
taking into account that 60-70 % of Internet UWA shoots are sunset most likely on beach makes considering of such lens showstopper.
As an oowner of Tokina 100macro I should say that it flare very difficult but if it flares it flare in whole image.
Last weeknd I´ve played with Tokina 11/16. I don´t like my sigma 10-20 but definitley Tokina 11-16 is not the lens for me.
I don´t expect any wonder here.

the AT-X 16-28 F2.8 PRO FX lens features the company's newly developed AF system that features a quieter Silent Drive-Module (SD-M) autofocus motor and promises more precise focusing.
So Tokina is finally moving to a sonicmotor AF...
And the lens is also weathersealed all sounds very promising except maybe the price <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Indeed they do! The corners are still fairly sharp and there doesnt appear to be too much distortion :-)

And basically no CAs although I reckon that they were corrected.

Interestingly it has a "bulb-like" front element as well. Seems to be fashionable ... just like the lens in our next review. ;-)

What I do like is that Tokina is finally releasing a new FF lens again. I think that that is a significant signal in this market.
I have owned and used quite a few Tokina lenses in the past, including during my analog days, and I have always been extremely happy with their performance and build.
So let's see what else they have in store for us <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />.
Kind regards, Wim

That's very promising. If this one produces good IQ on FFs, I can say that Tokina has found the niche in wide angle lens market. Silent AF, affordable price with very good IQ (also in the corners). At this price, the full framers (especially FX owners) would be quite happy. Nikon must be shivering right now...
