It's never too late for the next price increase I reckon ...
Stickin' around at Photorumours is certainly more entertaining than finishing a review of a 70-300, I can understand you. Yes, price increases this way are "naturally", just think about "Raider" becoming "Twix". It's okay if I spare me the use of an ugly smiley here?

it's now official same design but improved coatings, wonder why they didn't improve the IS it's still 3.5 f stops while they redesigned the 70-200f4 and added a new IS system with 5 stops

Great, the releases that probably nobody asked for. Still good from the corporate standpoint - the planned obsolescence marches on, and the threat of making the existing lenses non-repairable alone is probably going to "convince" a chunk of the userbase to update.

Well, that happens if engineers notice that smartphones are still accepted even with obviously planned obsolescence - and the fairphone (with exchangeable modules) couldn't convince enough consumers.
Apple will not support certain models of their iWatch with the next update of the watch's OS. 18 k€ (of the luxury version) becoming outdated in much less than 5 years. Maybe the companies collecting gold teeth will pay a couple of bucks for them...
