This is going to be a very interesting take everywhere camera:
https://www.43rumors.com/ft5-here-are-the-full-leaked-panasonic-lx100ii-specs-has-new-17-megapixel-multi-aspect-sensor/
- Lens: 16-50 f2.5-4.1 stabilized (APS-C equivalent)
- 17MP in 4:3 format
- 16MP in 3:2 format
- 2.76M EVF
- and all the usual features from a 2018 camera
Given the compact size and providing the lens is sharp corner to corner, this would be a great replacement to any MILC camera + standard zoom.
Klaus, would you consider reviewing its lens?
Yes, I am interested in this camera myself for hiking trips.
I was eyeballing its predecessor when I was thinking of getting a good compact camera. The I just kinda lost interest altogether, but despite that the specs looked mighty cool. Can't really tell what the changes/improvements are because I no longer remember the stats of the original - did it get 4 extra megapixels in the first place?
I'm somewhat confused about the degree of this update.
The old model had a 16.8mp sensor with a 12.8mp output. Not sure whether this one was also a "multi-aspect" sensor
So that one has been boosted to 21.8mp / 17mp effectively.
Other than that there seem to be only minor improvements.

The old one was also a multi-aspect sensor (in reality it's not, it's just that they take the full size of the MFT sensor and crop a bit into it, hence the 12.8MP out of 16MP).
This also means the crop factor is 2.2x instead of 2x for MFT.
I suspect the lens is identical but the AF is probably quite a bit better.
The main downside of the old model was the somewhat lowres output ~12.8MP.
17MP is much better in this regard.
The zoom range is rather short, at least for me, 24-100 would have been much better

They have to balance price and quality. The sensor is big for a digicam. I reckon a "24-100" would have a bigger protruding lens.
As far as pricing is concerned - the Sony RX-100 VI does offer a "24-200" but it has an insane price tag (and a smaller sensor).
The Canon G5 X has a "24-100" and a decent price tag but the lens isn't good.
Panasonic's own TZ202 suffers from the same disease.
So I think it's good that the LX100II is what it is - albeit I'd hoped for a little more than just a sensor update.
After having read the specifications, I'm a little confused... what kept them from making the screen articulating, or at least tilting?

Yes, a tilt screen would have been nice. They say it would add too much to the size."

Huh... their priorities are a little weird.
