And now there's a Russian rangefinder, made by Leica, together with a 35/1.0 (!) kit lens (!!) for around 4500.-

The lens alone from Fuji or Nikon would be more expensive.

You didn't mention the most interesting part... That camera is built by Leica in Germany. The camera is like a typ 240. The Typ 240 body only costs... $6000 body only. So it is not the "made in Germany" aspect that makes Leica price their products partly out of the marketplace.

You get a typ 240 limited production model  (500 will be made) with Zenit touches and a lens with a negative price. A no brainer for those who would like such a camera.

I didn't mention what? Big Grin Made by Leica ist something different than designed by Leica and made somewhere in East Asia

If you say that's a 240 type, you look at the outside (designed by Krasnogorsk). It would be interesting to tear them down. Also, I would not use a camera which follows the same design principles as Lada or a T90 tank: Edgy, close to no curves and from Logo to leather just ugly.

As soon as Leica get their hands on something we start talking new car prices!

My first SLR was a Zenith, a Zenith 3M with the 50mm F3.5 Industar...............I was young (believe it or not)........new it cost £13.19 shillings and six pence!!!

....... about 15 euros in todays money!..the best camera in the world........Ha ha...Yes really?........(I lie........second best ha ha...)

Now that Leica have their claws on Zenith we are talking 6,000 euros???

We'll be seeing a lot more of that with the Panasonic/Leica/ Sigma collaboration........

One thing that Leica will have to learn straight off the bat is, that only a small percentage of photographic folk will cough up mega prices just so they can parade the "red dot" ..........like they did with the re-badged V lux and D lux nonsense.........if Panasonic /sigma think they can jump on the Leica prices bandwagon they may be in for a shock!

For the rest of us we want reasonable value for money!!

The article you linked to clearly states:
"In the latest sign that this ain't your Großvater's Leica, it is currently assembling the 24MP full-frame Zenit M rangefinder alongside the M10 at its Wetzlar plant in Germany. "
and:
"As far as division of labor is concerned, I'm told that Zenit was responsible for the external design, and everything else is done at Wetzlar."
and:
"At the heart of the Zenit M is the same full-frame 24MP CMOS sensor as - you guessed it - the Leica Typ 240."

So yeah, internals designed by Leica. The look of the body "designed by Zenit". The camera internals are Typ 240. The camera is produced by Leica in Germany, not in Asia.
I think you got me wrong, BC: I didn't say this Leica/Zenit is produced in Asia, I just pointed out that it is made by Leica, which then would be in Germany - I don't know of Leica factories abroad.

But it's clear that even svarovsky could produce bracelets made out of glass instead of synthetic diamonds.
Leica has factories in Germany as well as Portugal:

Thanks, didn't know that.
FWIW, they (Zenit) have a website now:
