It could have ended in disaster....
Didn't actually buy any cheap card reader, have a decent one working very faithfully since more than 4 years.
Amazon offered me with EOSRP a cheap tiny SD card reader.
Since it's tiny and practical I said let's give it a try, when downloading pictures it cut several times then PC couldn't read it anymore, luckily I had used 7D2 and had another copy on CF card, after format in camera SD card is ready to use again.
Lesson learned...
