I am not sure about the performance but the price is in line with the brand. Who said Zeiss Otus was expensive lens?
I guess it won't be cheap. Remember the days when you could buy an oly 50f1.8 for $120 and felt that was expensive.
Alright, no use comparing it with the 50/1.8 lenses of yore (or the modern day abomination like the Sony FE) but seriously, this is still several times more expensive than today's Nikon S and Sony/Zeiss ZA. Though, as always, there are apologists.

Why the iPhone is more expensive than my Samsung?

Because of the brand name. 

Same with lenses.
