"Laowa" in Pinyin is actually "老蛙" (note the second hieroglyph is similar to what you posted, but has a different "key", "insect/creature" (“虫”) whereas what you posted has the key "mouth", “口” ). "蛙" means "frog" (actually the commonly used word is "青蛙" "qingwa", literally "green frog", but that's because a lot of separately used nouns in Chinese tend to gravitate towards two-syllable words).

"老" (lào) means "old" or, by extension, "respected" (not old as in outdated or worn, e.g. last year's iphone). The same hieroglyph is in the (nick)name of the philosopher Laozi.
