Looks like even the absolute values (regardless of bar height) are better on the 5D Mark II. We've seen that in the 20/1.4 review but it's pretty well confirmed with another lens now, across the zoom range to boot.

It is not that easy. And only a few numerical values are actually better in the 21mp MTF. This is mostly an impact from CAs. High CAs result in a penalty in Imatest. Beyond about 2.5px the MTFs are increasingly affected. And the 21mp images have far less CAs at 11mm (in terms of pixel widths).

The 5DSR has 154% the resolution, so logically CA will be 54% higher.

CA, yes, but is that the whole story?

See the now locked thread.
Thanks but you should also update the introduction: "It is the widest, fully corrected full format lens in existence" is no longer accurate.

The 21mp are relatively sharper on pixel level thus more receptive to sharpening - initially I didn't understand what Brightcolors intending to say there. That is correct.

So, the question is in the air - how much time/effort does the retest take? (since you don't have to write most of the text part, test for vignetting / distortions...)

About half a day.
