Before selling the Sigma 150-600mm I ran a quick test for a face-to-face sharpness comparison. My expectations were that the Sony is sharper, but not so much. It is actually so, but the difference is smaller than I expected (basically you see something only at APS-C borders at 600mm).

I tested against a subject 600 meters away (basically it's near infinite focusing, landscape mode).
Does it make sense that for subjects 10-50 meters away differences are more evident? I could postpone packing the Sigma lens and run another test in the next few days.

Thanks.

PS Not really important, just for fun; the reasons for switching to the Sony are others.
I'm not too surprised - the more expensive extreme zoom lenses tend to be more even at the long end but not much sharper in the center.
It's, of course, more evident on FF.

Very much of all this is dependent on the centering quality of the specific sample. 600mm also means a darn magnification of any assembly issue.
Centering seems to be very fine in both lenses (I only checked at the horizontal left/right border, not corners).
