Snow form yesteryear I thought, that was a new teardown.
However I read somewhere that their lens department must be under a lot of stress, developing for so many different mounts. At first, and mostly because I'm in some sort of same situation, I agreed. But then, Tamron and Sigma and Tokina have this as their business model.

It sounds as they had a problem in market share anyway (in Japan):

Sony didn´t introduce a new APS-C mirrorless in 2015, hardly surprising that their market share dropped.

Maybe they grew tired of "you release too many bodies and too few lenses" and decided to amend that... by going the easy route.
