Bit pricey it looks like... the 70-200/2.8 (IS) lenses have crept up another $1000 since my times. 🙂
I'll probably keep using my trusty Canon gen.1 until it falls apart completely. 🙂
In your shoes I would do exactly the same thing, already gen.1 was excellent and nobody would see the difference on prints.
