Focus stacking software

Given that there are not even rumours of new APS-C Sony cameras, I've ordered the a6700 — this means that I'll be able to use also the in-camera focus stacking feature. Now I need a software for post-processing. The most obvious choice seems to be Helicon, also because there's a plugin for Capture One. But are there alternatives? Maybe something better?

C1 does recommend Helicon, it seems.

I suppose you don't have Photoshop?

No, I don't. I used to have it years ago, but I didn't upgrade at a certain point since I never used it for photos. For the small amount of graphic editing that I could need for other things, I use Gimp.

I've just seen a thread in a C1 forum which suggests Affinity Photo — I know it by name, but never tried. Unfortunately it seems there's no trial to download, but the point is that the perpetual license is 75€ vs 105€, and of course offers also other features. I'll search some video to understand how it works for stacking.
