Although for me it's unlikely: they are expected to be manual focus as there's no place for a focus engine or even no focus lenses as at f8 DOF is big enough. Those lenses can be easily copied by Chinese companies who will be rapidly selling them for peanuts.
toni-a Rover wrote Why would anyone bother with that? The 28/2.8 is on the market for a reason. I already own the excellent 35mmf1.8 (my most used lens), it's compact enough and I have no complaints, I wouldn't swap it for the 28mm 🙂 here we're talking about a new trend in lenses super tiny and slow
Rover Well, it's actually not exactly new - remember that Leica had their 28mm f/5.6 lens for ages (and they released it again a couple years ago at outrageous price...) Why would anyone buy this is, of course, another question. :-)

Even if it's just a concept for now, it demonstrates Canon's interest in ultra-compact solutions. I think that manual focus makes logical at these scales, especially given the big DOF at f/8. And you're right—other manufacturers may rapidly respond with similar, low-cost choices. It will be interesting to watch how Canon develops this concept!
