Sony releases the new RX1 MkIII compact camera .... what do you get?

the fors:

compact

Zeiss 35mm F2 lens

61 MP sensor

leaf shutter

the againsts:

I mp "fixed" rear screen ... (yes that same massive 12 year old parts bin is still brimming over )

2.6 million dot EVF .... (another old parts bin)

Fixed lens only

I SD card slot

No IBIS

lots of rolling shutter with video (ie slow read out from the 61 Mp sensor)

focal length by cropping .... only 27Mp at 50mm .... 15 Mp at 70mm

Are these really the specs of a $5,098 dollar camera ....

Yes, but what you actually get is: ...... well and truly "fleeced" .....

Leica must be wetting themselves laughing ....

It looks like it's almost for me. I shoot with A7C with Sigma 35 F/2 most of the time. I would consider buying it if it was 35 f/1.4 in the same-ish size (or the size of Leica M with Summilux).

For once I would go with the Leica Q3 .... if you are "must having" the Sony's accessories, the wind on/ case/ lens-hood you can add $750 bringing the total to $5,950 ... for $500+ extra you can get the Leica!
.... the reviewer describes the difference between the Q3's 5.7 million dot EVF screen's quality and magnification, then the Sony's pokey 2.6 million dot .... (at 11 mins).
Add IBIS to the equation, orientable rear screen and build quality ..... and whichever way you swing it the Leica is the camera to buy ..... if you can't shlepp the Q3 easily you're pretty much done physically ...
