Resuming a Nikon FG with film? Which film do you suggest?

Now that I have a possibly working solution for scanning film, it's high time I decided what to do with my Nikon FG that has been sitting in the closet for longer than 22 years.

Whether I sell it or keep it I have to try whether it works and take a roll. I'd like to keep it and occasionally take a roll of film to digitise; in case I'll get bored and won't do it, I'll sell it.

What kind of negative film do you suggest I try?

When using a 40 year old camera you have to worry about the light seals (foam). Foam degrades with time and needs replacement. Some old cameras (e.g. real Rolleis) were better in that respect. Did you test whether the shutter is still firing? Using a flash with a dry camera (no film inside, backdoor open) you could get an initial idea on the shutter times faster than sync speed. Looking from that rear through the gate at 1/1000s one should see a small slit. Using 1/500s one should see a slit about twice as wide.
