Looks like a very good lens indeed, a highlight of the system for sure. I can understand the indignation about rampant distortion and vignetting that make autocorrections mandatory, but I guess we can safely say that completely optically corrected lenses are gone and they will not return, at least as far as wide angles go.

FWIW I'm still using the EF 16-35mm f/4L IS, and I'm not in any hurry to have it replaced...

Food for thought ..... when shooting wide open at 14mm @ 100 iso, the corners will be 31,104 iso!

Well, only in RAW mode without distortion correction.
The darkest corners are pushed out of the image field with activated autocorrection.
So it's more like a theoretical issue in the real world.

It seems to be the new way these days .... bottom of the optical "must have" list is now distortion and vignetting ....
