Thank you for the review! For photographers who are OK with the shorter focal length of the Fuji 55-200mm, how does the 70-300mm compare in terms of optical characteristics on a 40MP sensor?

Yes, it's fine in the 70-200mm range.
It's also not terrible at 300mm - there isn't a hell of a lot of microcontrast, but something like DXO can also help to extract the best from the lens.

Klaus the lenses are the same weight, so if IQ is similar in the overlapping range, the 300mm would be the best choice it appears.

At 300mm there is a real boost in IQ when you stop down a little (f7.1 is enough), when that is possible.

How come the el cheapo Tamron 70-300mm VC is apparently a better performer... on FF... while being a fraction of the price. For what this one is, it's overpriced as heck.

P.S. Pity you don't get an intermediate setting to test on the 70-300mm class lenses, like 135mm. That would have been another nice comparison point to the 70-200mm lenses you test, as well as "longish" standard zoom.
