Regrouping after Windows 11 pull the rug from underneath 4K resolution!

Hi guys, having just had my tower computer some updated 8 months ago so as to be supported by W11, I spent several months bathing in the glory of 4K and being able to use PS CS6 portable to process my images ....... than one fine day Bill Gates descendants decide that yet another rushed update needed to be put on line to rectify the many problems from the previous ones.
So bye bye 4K and bye bye DNG processing in PS. (I had posted briefly some time back)
I tried all sorts of ways to retrieve it/them to no avail .... I also opened a case with AMD who responded quickly but I got bogged down with technical issues....
Finally I decided to find a laptop with 4K that was still compatible with Bill Gates descendancy requirements for supporting W11 ...... why a laptop? well since the drought there have been a series of powerful electric storms causing multiple powercuts of the type switch on/off .. on off threatening the very life of my tower .... I also reasoned that a laptop from a producer selling to major businesses would be more likely to ensure the W11 updates didn't cause issues or at least ones that get rectified quickly .... whereas my tower was on it's third rebuild therefore a bitser and was probably almost one of a kind ..... so who would care?

The Bon Coin came to my aid yet again as I found a Dell XPS 15 7590 4K OLED priced at €380 ..........
The catch was the screen had two light lines across the top but was otherwise completely usable ... hence the price .. bartering commenced and he settled for €300 ....... I went to Toulouse to buy it.
I am now re-bathing (naked) once again in 4K glory! .....

Now to see if PS will come to life ........

I never upgraded to 11. Don't like how it looks or operates (and whether it can be tamed a bit by using Classic Shell, either). Still sticking around with Win10. 🙂

Hi Rover,
I did backdate to W10 but it didn't resolve anything, (no 4K), it still does some updates though anyway, I'm now certain that Windows is the culprit as to why PS CS6 is crippled, the latest is that now the PS application to start the program is put on the desktop it will no longer fire up and comes up with a panel that says "can not find DLL" yet when you click on the desktop icon within the program file it fires up but won't open DNG files .... but all works on my old W7 laptop fine, the updates are set to "never" which shows it' the updates are the cause.
I tried DXO trial of 30 days, but it is very slow to open and changing the settings, but takes too long to live with.
So I have downloaded Nikon's NX studio which is also slowish but it's free ... I also have Darktable , yet to try it out.

Super frustrating all round!

Update, after I regrouped to the Dell laptop a week later (today) the internet speed (Wifi) dropped so I decided to switch to the tower (ethernet cable) to check the problem ....... it was Wifi, while on the tower I also checked the resolution ..... blow me down if I had 4K back again .......
Clearly Bill Gates follows OL forums and felt guilty about my situation and did a one off Windows update ..... thanks Bill!

I'm still on 10 but buying new stuff at least in usa is expensive due to memory shortages. Memory that i purchased when i setup my mom computer went up 10x in 2 years. So a $50 went to over $500. crazy. I still coudn't decode what broke with win 11 update from your note but maybe it doesn't matter. I mostly use linux for non-game work but i don't use any commerical software. Still my phone takes ok photos some of the time... I mostly just take pictures of fishes - i thought about either upgrading my ancient fuji system or buying a sony system but i hate dealing with corporations these days so maybe i should just learn to draw them.
