Another blast from the past

Woohoo, and here I was wondering if this one would ever be reviewed - nice to see it come to fruition (though I've stopped short of asking since I'm already endlessly asking and nagging which Klaus might find irritating... don't wanna get banned lol)
Interesting how this is a little given and take compared to the Nikon. The latter is surely more compact but when it was first released, I heard that it cheats quite a bit with focal length, being really about 95mm, which is the explanation for its small(er) form factor. Is there any way of corroborating / debunking that?

A mother of a lens ..... just how I like them!

"The Sigma 105mm f/1.4 DG HSM ART produced great results in the lab here although it doesn’t reach the fantastic quality of the Nikkor AF-S 105mm f/1.4 E." .... tested on the Z7 45.7 Mps sensor.

Does this take into account that the Nikkor was tested on the Nikon D3X's 24 Mps sensor?

That said, the Sigma got a (marginally) higher score of 9.5 vs. 9.

BTW there's some sort of inconsistency in how you render the ratings... some are given as percentage and some as a score on a scale of 10. Check the Nikon vs. Sigma reviews in question.

Klaus

uups

Wordpress always calculates the average points across all rating categories - whereas I overwrite this with the optical quality only. When editing some typos, it overwrites this with the average again.

davethebirder

Oh right, from a few weeks ago ........ I looked under the DSLR reviews .......

btw ...... speaking of testing the Nikkor AF-S 105mm F1.4E on the Nikon D3X ......

How are you Markus?

Klaus

I think Markus is no longer watching this channel.
We have decided that it makes sense to hand over his work for me to continue.
He just didn't have the time due to his other work and ... life.
He's still there for support.

davethebirder

Shame I liked him .... he had a good sense of humour ......

Rover

There's a solid chance he still does... It's just that we won't have (as many) chances to appreciate it. :-(
