Lens Guard - Saldo - 07-06-2011 I always carry a small backpack with my things and my camera in it, but no camera bag, so I had quite a few accidents with slipping caps. The only one which never failed me is this: http://www.amazon.com/Mennon-White-balance-lens-52mm/dp/B0019BJZ8C However, it's a pain in that the base is plastic and screws into the filter attachment, which can cause vignetting when stacking filters and make more cumbersome to attach and remove a polarizer. The white balance setting function of the cap is less than reliable, so I just use it as a, hemm, cap.. Otherwise, a friend uses a slip-in neoprene cover and my dad had this hard-leather cover for his nikonos, which he then would regularly toss in with is fishing and scuba gear with no apparent damage to camera or lens over the years, but I wouldn't necessarily reccomend that <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Lens Guard - backcountryskier - 07-06-2011 Might be a good solution for lenses with slim filters or bulging front elements. Lens Guard - PuxaVida - 07-07-2011
I'm very tempted to compare the thing to a condom, and crack a few jokes but I probably shouldn't
When I first saw these on a photo magazine, I couldn't help to see it in that way... God, it does look ugly! Uglier than a lens with a condom actually... Serkan Lens Guard - Guest - 07-08-2011 Frankly, if it helps against zoom creep, it's more than just usable. I recently started to use my Zeiss 16-80, but it seems to be uncarryable. While it doesn't creep at all when on tripod, it fully extends after half-minute of carrying. It easily outweights my new Alpha 55, thus always points down. Add to it some swinging on the belt, and here it is. |
