Nice bokeh from 40mm f0.85 APS-C HandeVision Ibelux - Brightcolours - 12-14-2013 And eye watering price tag.... http://kipon.com/en/articledetail.asp?id=60 The other lenses mentioned sound interesting too, like a "fast" mirror APO tele. But calling it APO is a bit silly, as that is a characteristic of mirror lenses anyway. Nice bokeh from 40mm f0.85 APS-C HandeVision Ibelux - Klaus - 12-14-2013 Quite good blur albeit poor highlight rendition, I'd say. Low contrast at large aperture. At this price they will not sell many though. Nice bokeh from 40mm f0.85 APS-C HandeVision Ibelux - Brightcolours - 12-14-2013 Yes, I agree.. Very nice blur for 40mm, but cat's eye shapes due to a too narrow barrel, outlining of the bokeh discs, and coma is apparent. And yes, that price... I guess they aim for low numbers (as they are new to the game) which demands a high price. Nice bokeh from 40mm f0.85 APS-C HandeVision Ibelux - Rainer - 12-15-2013 They claim best sharpness for f/5.6 ... that is 5 (plus a bit) f-stops down from max-aperture ... which is at least unusual for a prime. Most of them get their best values 2 to 3 stops down. Looking at the MTF-curves ... while things look ok-ish at f/5.6 ... sharpness is next to nonexistant at f/0.85 ... well, probably sharpness is not the reason why one would buy such a lens. I do find some of the sample images nice ... but at the price they ask for it, I easily get a used 5D plus a 50L which allows the same type of images (with the plus of AF and aperture controlled by the camera). So, likely this 40/0.85 will remain a gimmick for those who already have everything else. Just my thoughts ... Rainer Nice bokeh from 40mm f0.85 APS-C HandeVision Ibelux - Klaus - 12-15-2013 Especially considering the upcoming Leica 42.5mm f/1.2 ... But for the rest it is quite an awesome lens. The 50mm f1.2 L's MTF wide open are (naturally, I would say) not splendid either: Compare that to these: Nice bokeh from 40mm f0.85 APS-C HandeVision Ibelux - Rover - 12-17-2013 The price of the CINE version of the SLR Magic 50mm f/0.95 is not that far removed from this... and it's a full frame lens. If someone can fork out $2K for a left field lens like this, $3K is probably not totally out of his/her reach. And the SLR Magic is now proven as a quality lens. Just my $.02 Nice bokeh from 40mm f0.85 APS-C HandeVision Ibelux - Klaus - 12-17-2013 The SLRMagic didn't work so well on the NEX 7 ... Nice bokeh from 40mm f0.85 APS-C HandeVision Ibelux - Klaus - 12-18-2013 Possibly. As mentioned I gave up on the NEX6. Not because of the NEX6 but because I just don't have the time. However, given the average production lifespan of a Sony NEX, those 16mp sensors will be history very soon anyway. |
