Actually I filtered the feeds till about a month ago using Yahoo Pipes (cool thing, BTW).
I gave it up after dropping the News section in favour of the manufacturer forums.
I reckon this was the time when people got really annoyed because of the higher visibility combined with the unfiltered brand news rather than the system news.
I actually liked it. The "previews" at the various photo sites out there are basically just rephrased versions of the information on the manufacturer sites so I don't bother with these secondary information anymore. The feeds were a good trigger here.

Really glad to see him gone. I hated him (her?) from day 1 and reported him as "spammer" a number of times.
Before News Generator, members would post here about new stuff they thought was interesting, typically with a few comments. That triggered more discussion than THIS news generator.
I think he really damaged the culture of this place from day 1 in my view. I know your view was different and it is your place.
