Scarno Point steps to Port Quin - IanCD - 01-17-2012
Path and fence were crying out for some good shots... (so I walked back next day WITH the camera..! <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
' />) Taken from the top of the steps, hanging out as far as I could with my legs wrapped round the step railings...
No tripod there, then..! <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
' />Fairly dull light, raw image is quite flat, taken as far as my current LR skills will allow... (and trying out LR4): adjusted tone curve / contrast, B&W mix, clarity and sharpening, plus some local exposure adjustment over the sea.
What do you think..?

Well seen Ian,
I followed your posts since the beginning. I should say that you have made enormous progression. It is really nice to look at people work that makes constant progression. You raise the bar with every posted shoot.
Back to the image – nice lines shapes and forms. They are the best photographer’s friend. Compositions is also very good. Well done!

A very nice scene... I could not decide which format would look better; landscape or portrait... Then I took the opportunity and recomposed a portrait format (+ applied USM in CS4). Hi Serkan,
I'm okay with you doing that... personally, I wouldn't crop that much of the steps and path out, though
Re sharpening, I already did capture sharpening in LR, then output sharpening is applied on Export from LR as a .jpg AND SmugMug applies further sharpening. This is something I'm just learning about... Presumably, you thought it needed more?
It's something I find quite difficult to see clearly and optimise in LR..!

I downloaded the original JPEG from SmugMug and applied USM in CS4 as follows:
Amount: 20%
Radius: 50
Threshold: 0
I just wanted to check if it makes difference... But of course it will make difference on the .nef file...
