Nice Flare!

Looks pretty good :-) I wonder why they market it as an f/1.6 lens if it is an f/1.4 But has a transmission of T/1.6. Thats pretty standard for an f/1.4 lens isn't it? You would think they would sell more if they sold it as an f/1.4 lend or t/1.6 lens if that is what it is!

Interesting review thanks. This was a very interesting new offer for mFT, so it was good to see the review up so soon.

One of the problems with all the pancake mirrorless primes is their lack of close-focus ability (i.e. 1:10 or 1:12). Especially with the mFT lenses who already limited on the shallow end of the DOF range, they are further hindered by their inability to close focus. The HyperPrime 12mm still doesn't really get that close (1:8?), but it's a bit better espcially combined with it's effective f/1.4.

The two lens flare issues highlighted in the review are pretty severe however.

Based on what I've seen so far I'd say that close-focus correction seems to be an issue in mirrorless land which is why we are probably see relatively moderate max. magnification ratios.

But a magnification of 1:8 on an FT is a field of view corresponding to the size of a postcard. When I grew up that was the typical macro setting of a zoom lens for a film DSLR. For an ultrawide I think that is a very decent value.

Field of view is how wide the view is, not the magnification <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

1:8 on FT is even a bit better than the typical postcard size, it is about CD jewel case size. Indeed, not all that bad for 24mm FF equivalent.

Thanks! Sort of an unusual lens, but along with the Samyang 7.5mm fisheye, it's a reasonably sharp and affordable option for a particular sort of look.

Question: any chance of seeing a review of the new Panasonic X 14-42 zoom?

It should be 5th in row. Early Jan I guess.

Wow, that's quite a lengthy queue you have set up <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> Hopefully there are other m4/3 lenses in that lineup too!
